Profiting From the Power of the Sun (Not Solar!)

Imagine building a machine that would bottle-up the sun.

What’s more is that after decades of hard work, you’re finally ready to see your dream turn into reality.

Billions of dollars were raised as you’ve cultivated the minds of the best physicists on Earth.

Together, you built magnets strong enough to hold a cloud of plasma hotter than the Sun’s core.

The only thing standing between you and success is one tiny thing: A computer chip.

That’s not a joke, dear reader.

You see, the problem is that power chips, the kind that move electricity around inside a machine like this, waste somewhere between 5% and 10% of what passes through them.

That may not sound like much, but every bit counts when you’re running a machine that barely makes more energy than it uses.

Think of it like a leaky bucket…

You’re trying to carry water uphill, and you only have a little more than you started with. Lose 10% of that water on the way, and the whole trip becomes useless.

Cut that leak in half, and suddenly it makes that trip worthwhile.

We’ve seen this before, too.

In December of 2022, scientists at a California lab got more energy out of a tiny fuel capsule than their lasers put in.

Did you miss it? The news made headlines everywhere.

However, it took roughly 300 million joules just to run the lasers that delivered about 2 million joules to the target.

I won’t knock the achievement since it was a huge leap forward.

But it does show us something…

The race to bottle the Sun isn’t just about the big, flashy physics.

Truth is, it’s about the boring stuff: chips, switches, capacitors, wires.

And that’s where the money is finally starting to flow that makes this powerful energy source a reality.

So what happened?

Recently, a company named Helion signed a letter of intent with the Commerce Department for up to $175 million, money that comes out of the same CHIPS program that was built to bring semiconductor factories back to America.

Now add another $50 million in cash on top of that from a private investor.

More than $100 million will go to research in Everett, Washington, supporting over 100 jobs, and roughly $80 million is earmarked for work in Vermont with an industry partner.

The eye-catching part here is the fact that in return, the government would take a $175 million non-voting stake in the company.

We’ve moved far beyond the days of taking government money without any strings attached.

Mind you, it’s not exactly a done deal… not yet.

And it won’t help Helion’s first plant, which isn’t expected to come online until 2028. The company’s CEO has said this work is aimed at the plants that come after.

Concerns over the supply chain are starting to pop-up. A national security think tank went through it piece by piece.

What did they find? First look at big capacitors.

In the early machines, one company based in China was the sole provider at scale; Helion and another company have since moved toward U.S. makers.

What about high-power switches? Not surprisingly, the leading supplier is now owned by a Chinese company.

And what about the devices that heat the plasma? Russia has long dominated their production, which also happens to be one of the biggest constraints.

Dig around and it’s the same story, over and over again, from tungsten to superconducting wire… China owns ALL of it.

And President Xi isn’t exactly in a sharing mood, either.

In fact, a Chinese startup just made its own advancements in this new energy wave, with a power demonstration planned around 2030.

What’s left for scientists to do? Labs in California keep pushing for new advancements, yet it’s more than Chinese startups that are nipping at their heels.

The race is in full swing in Canada and France, too, where key tests and project start-ups are expected by 2028 and 2034, respectively.

But the lesson from the chip boom was a simple one — when the government picks an industry, the first checks weren’t written on the finished product.

Race to the Prize

As much as I wish that everyone could succeed, the cold, bitter truth is that most companies in this energy race won’t survive.

Some will burn through their cash, while others will hit a wall in physics.

However, we’re close enough to the finish line that the government is putting real money behind it, and they want to keep a piece of the prize.

In fact, the Department of Energy has opened a dedicated office and a roadmap that calls for this incredible power source to hit the U.S. grid by the mid-2030s.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is already setting up its rulebook as states pass laws regulating it.

Everyone is preparing.

You know as well as I do that during the chip boom, the biggest early winners weren’t always the companies designing the chips.

Rather, they were the ones making the tools, the materials, and the pieces that put everything together — the magnets, electronics, specialty metals, and of course, the fuel.

Somebody has to make all of it.

And if you want to see where the early opportunities may be, it’s time you let me show you the full details behind this opportunity.
