EPA Firm on Biofuel Quota Changes

Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) attended a congressional meeting to defend their awkward handling of the biofuel quota changes from last month.Biofuel Field

Last month’s quota raise brought a slew of criticisms from oil companies and corn farmers al
ike who believed the new requirements were unattainable.

Additionally, the Renewable Fuels Starndards (RFS) were accused of being out of date and caused a rise in both fuel prices and food prices. One senator, James Lankford, even asserted that the use of corn-based ethanol does not have any environmental benefits for the cost.

However, EPA Acting Assistant Administrator Janet McCabe insists that the target quotas are “ambitious but responsible.” It is likely the EPA will hold their ground on this matter until 2017 a the soonest.
