You’d be surprised what you find when you’re not looking.

Believe me, the last thing I wanted to do was drive back to Baltimore without a map… especially when I was parked on the side of the road about 2,500 miles from home.

My cohort and I were on the tail-end of a five-day excursion to the Alberta oil sands (something I absolutely had to see firsthand).

With forty or more hours to Baltimore still ahead of us, we weren’t in a rush to get back… And to ensure a more scenic journey, we decided to take a different path home and let the cards fall where they may.

That’s how we ended up on the side of the road. My friend was casually leaning against the dusty, beaten Chevy, taking a moment to light his cigarette.

By the time he finished, I noticed he had picked a rock off of the ground, carefully turning it over in his hands.

"Tell me what you this smells like to you," he said, flipping the rock over to me.

I caught the rock and the pungent smell of petroleum struck my senses. Gently rubbing my fingers along the fine edge of the rock, I glanced back at my friend.

"Smells like oil, doesn’t it?" he asked me.

"No," I replied. "It smells like money… "

Canada: Leading the North America Oil Revival

Opportunities like this one don’t come often.

In fact the last time I was this excited about an oil play, it was when my readers and I first started playing Bakken stocks.

This was back before the USGS released their assessment; before companies made a mad dash to grab as much land in North Dakota’s Williston Basin as humanly possible.

Back then, the Bakken was untested and completely unheard of outside certain circles. I would go so far as to say that most people couldn’t even tell me North Dakota’s capital city. (It’s Bismarck, by the way.)

Until 2005, the state’s oil production had been stagnant for decades. But all that changed in a matter of two years.

And my readers and I couldn’t have played it better.

But it’s not the Bakken’s success that’s conjured up feelings of investment excitement — there’s another play, located in the heart of Canada’s premiere energy producer…

It’s called the Cardium oil play.

Unlocking Cardium Oil… Again

Yes, the Cardium formation is back.

For those of you that have never heard of the Cardium before, the story is similar to the Bakken’s own success — with one difference.

Although both were discovered in the 1950s, the Cardium has grown into a strong oil and gas play for Canada. As you know, the Bakken has been virtually untapped until recently.

In the past, most investors have dismissed the Cardium as a mature oil play. However, the latest advancements in horizontal drilling and multi-stage fracturing will put the Cardium back into the spotlight.

And it’s not just investors that will be taking advantage of the Cardium…

Over the last few years, Alberta has been slowly losing its position as Canada’s best energy producer. The heated debate over oil and gas royalties caused a lot of companies to look elsewhere for their operations.

Both Saskatchewan’s portion of the Bakken and the Horn River formation in British Columbia have stolen the public spotlight. And the collapse of oil prices didn’t exactly help matters for Alberta.

But this is good news for us. While most investors are just now learning about the Bakken, we’re already three steps ahead. Eventually, word about the Cardium’s success is going to spread like wildfire.

In other words: the window of opportunity is closing.

The First Round of Cardium Profits

Here’s what it comes down to:

  • The key to unlocking those Cardium profits boils down to drilling. Today, it’s not about drilling straight down and waiting for a gusher; horizontal drilling and fracturing techniques are becoming more efficient with every well drilled.

  • Once the Cardium secret gets out, Alberta could erase all doubt that the province is still Canada’s premiere energy producer. And that will lead to a huge rush to develop Cardium assets.

  • While the U.S. struggles to eliminate its dependence on Saudi oil, we’ll need to find more sources of light, sweet crude — the exact quality of oil that exists in the Cardium formation.

So, how do you prepare for this North American oil revival?

Trading Ahead of the Pack

The last thing I want to do is leave you in the dark.

And ever since I began writing about the Alberta’s Cardium formation, I’ve been bombarded with e-mails. I’ve also noticed that most of those questions were about how to get started and where to find future Cardium profits.

That’s why I’ve put together this free bonus report that highlights several ways to play the upcoming Cardium profits, including one way to bank 1239% by 2012.
