In terms of capacity, nuclear energy is at the top coming in at 92.5% with the next closes energy source being geothermal energy which has a capacity factor of 74.3%. While most think of Fukishima and ThreeMile island, modern nuclear power is not only more efficient but safer as well. The downside is companies that are developing these modern small-scale fission reactors are all private, like Bill Gate's TerraPower.
West Texas Intermediate, or WTI, is perhaps the most famous. This is the light, sweet crude that flows out of Texas wells in the Permian Basin. WTI has an API gravity of about 39.6, making it quite light (having an API gravity over 10 means the petroleum is lighter and floats on water). It also has a sulfur content around 0.24%. Brent crude is actually a blend of oil from more than a dozen oil fields located in the North Sea. Although considered both light and sweet, Brent is slightly heavier than WTI, with an API gravity of 38.06 and a sulfur content of 0.37%.
Since the mid-1800s, the world has consumed more than a trillion barrels of crude oil. And the truth is that nearly all of this was supplied through conventional drilling where a vertical well is drilled into the ground and into an oil-bearing reservoir. The crude is then pumped to the surface. Hydraulic fracturing (fracking) utilizes horizontal drilling techniques to extract oil fom shale formations that contain oil. Key changes to fracking technology helped spur the oil boom in 2008 taking place in the Bakken, Marcellus, Eagle Ford, and Permian Basin shale formations.
The term peak oil was made popular by Marion King Hubbert's peak theory in which he describes the point at which global crude oil production will reach its maximum rate and production will begin to decline due to fewer resoucres and profits. Hubbert first theorized that crude oil would peak around 2000 after oil production peaking in the 1970's. However, Hubbert did not anticipate the shale revolution of 2008 until 2016 where the U.S. was pumping a record 13 million barrels a day.
The original $50 Buffalo gold piece is a true beauty. However, there is a good chance the coin you're being pitched is NOT an original but rather a cheap knockoff. In other words, it is a "tribute" copy of the coin. But it's easy to double check the true value. If for instance the coin is plated in 14 mg of pure gold, it is a dead giveaway this coin is cheap. How can we be so sure? Well, there are 31.1 grams in a troy ounce, so we must divide 14 milligrams by 31.1 grams. A few keypunches tell us the coin is clad in 0.00045 troy ounces of gold (0.014 / 31.1 = 0.00045016).How much is that worth exactly? With a gold price around $1,670, that makes it worth $0.75. A measly three quarters, far off from the original $50 gold proof. So before you buy, make sure the numbers add up.
Graphene is a single-layer sheet of carbon atoms. Its multilayered version is called graphite. You may remember this material from its use in pencils, where it's ideal due to its brittle nature and the visible trace it leaves behind. However, a single layer of graphene is very strong. It is, by researchers' estimations, about 200 times stronger than steel and as much as 100 times stronger than diamonds. Since diamonds are also carbon, graphene is just a more stable atomic formation of the element. In fact, graphene has acquired the reputation of being a "miracle material."
