French wind developer Areva (EPA: AREVA) has reached an agreement with Scottish Enterprise whereby it will situate its new manufacturing site for turbines in Scotland.

The deal could generate as many as 750 jobs directly in manufacturing, with more distributed throughout the supply chain.

Areva intends to manufacture nacelles and blades in Scotland.

From BBC:

[First Minister Alex] Salmond said: “Scotland shares Areva’s vision of a cleaner tomorrow. Today’s announcement provides a further boost to Scotland’s position as one of Europe’s key locations for offshore wind and takes us another significant step further in achieving our ambitious carbon reduction target.

The deal is a good thing for Scotland, as the country is looking to develop its renewables sector.

The nation’s National Renewables Infrastructure Plan (NRI-P) grants investors in offshore development key incentives, and that’s what interests Areva.
