Tesla Shaking Up the Middle East

Posted February 13, 2017 at 9:32PM

You would think that a place like the United Arab Emirates which has the seventh largest crude oil reserves in the world would be staying well away from electric cars like Tesla…

After all, electric cars and other more sustainable energy methods are some of the biggest threats to the oil industry that is so important to the U.A.E., but apparently that isn’t stopping Tesla from selling cars to the country.

Tesla UAE

Really, doesn’t everyone want to own a Tesla? No matter what the cost? There’s something so… cool about the sleek cars and the Tony Stark-esque charisma of their CEO, Elon Musk.

Musk himself said, "‘We expect to invest tens of millions of dollars in the UAE for charging, service and support infrastructures… By next year, you’ll be able to travel anywhere in the GCC with an electric vehicle.’" Musk attended an event on February 13th in the U.A.E. that represented the start of Tesla in the country.

Tesla is going to be taking orders for their Model S Sedan and their Model X SUV for delivery in the summer. They plan on opening a service center in July, and a store and service center in Abu Dhabi next year. There are already two charging stations in Dubai, and Tesla plans on opening up five more by the end of the year.
