Big Oil Fights for Newfield Exploration (NYSE: NFX) Assets

Newfield Exploration (NYSEL NFX) Auctions Asian Assets

Royal Dutch Shell (LSE:RDSA), Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:XOM), Talisman Energy (TOR: TLM) and Kuwait Petroleum Corp. are all bidding for Newfield Exploration Co.’s (NYSE:NFX) Chinese and Malaysian oil and gas fields.

The companies will be submitting offers in a second round of bids in September. The fields, currently valued at about $1.2 billion, represent aging oil plays that companies like Newfield are getting rid of in order to invest more heavily in North American shale.
