Emerging Oil Investments

Risk in the market is unavoidable.

As investors, we all come across risk at some point… and attempt to sidestep it as much as possible.

I would expect anyone with a dime in the market since 2008 to have explored strategies to lower risk exposure.

Two weeks ago, we showed you one way to do just that — through solid, high-yielding MLPs.

Each one of those investments is a safe haven for investors, paying out at least 6% annually.

You can also be assured these steady returns will be there for you for decades. They hold the key to the pipelines that ensure our oil and gas supply gets to market.

Of course, there’s another side to this coin…

It’s normally the smaller, riskier plays that make income investors cringe at the sight of such a small company trying to make it big. But some investors embrace this risk.

Because these are the plays that get your blood flowing, the ones that make your hair stand on end from a single press release.

And for some investors, embracing this high level of risk leads to a fortune…

A Tale of Two Shales

We’ve all heard the stories. And I know for a fact that many of my readers have had tremendous success with the right play.

The story that immediately comes to mind is the one that’s been played out on the media stage for the last few years…

Five years ago, the Bakken Formation didn’t even register as a blip on Wall Street’s radar.

Here’s how just one of our small Bakken stocks has performed since appearing on our radar:

“Explosive” would be an understatement for some of these Bakken investments.

Sure, there are still plenty of gains to be plucked from the tight shales beneath North Dakota soil — but don’t let a single opportunity detract you from finding more…

Last Tuesday, we said we’d try to fly even further from Wall Street’s radar and look at two of those emerging opportunities.

Stretching across several states — including Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, Montana, and both Dakotas — the Niobrara Shale is still relatively new to the scene:

Located in the Denver-Jules Basin, the Niobrara has been referred to as “the NeoBakken,” mostly because it holds a similarity to the now-famous Bakken.

That’s why it shouldn’t come as a shock that many of the major Niobrara players also have a stake in North Dakota — and are looking to replicate its success. Those of us who’ve had an eye on the Bakken recognize a few of those stocks:

Ever since EOG’s Jake well was drilled in Northern Colorado, the play has been receiving a lot of attention. Their encouraging results sparked a land rush and pushed acreage prices higher.

With extremely low natural gas prices and companies shifting their production mix to oil and NGLs, liquids-rich formations like the Bakken, Eagle Ford, and Niobrara are becoming even more attractive for drillers.

I’ve seen reserve estimates vary, some exceeding over a billion barrels of recoverable oil.

A second promising tight oil play that’s still in its early development stage is right next door to the Bakken…

alberta bakken

The Southern Alberta Basin, also referred to as the Alberta Bakken (due to its similarity to the Bakken), straddles northwest Montana and southern Alberta.

And just like most other unconventional plays across North America, its full potential wasn’t realized until horizontal drilling and completion techniques were combined to tap into the shale rock.

In fact, some analysts have reported 2.6 billion barrels of reserves are ripe for the picking.

Calculated Risk vs. Reward

The old adage “the early bird catches the worm” certainly applies here. Investors who are able to stomach the risk stand to be handsomely rewarded in the end…

That’s precisely how Nick Hodge’s Early Advantage readers managed 300% gains in mere months.

Nick and his readers have become known for their knack for being in the right place at the right time.

That’s why my eyes lit up when Nick recounted his latest excursion up North to visit a massive mine in Canada. This particular mine has an abundance of the source metal for what’s being touted by BBC as a “Miracle Material.”

This could be a game-changer — and not just for the oil and gas industry…

Nick is hosting a live seminar tonight that will give you all the details on this new opportunity. You can sign up for it — absolutely free — just by clicking here.

Until next time,
